you need to bind your IIS website to this address.

We have , we added dnndev.me into the binding in IIS.

We have done everything recommended in the setting up guide and dont forget we have already set this up without problem on another remote server,  it is just causing a problem on this windows 7 virtual machine we have each been given.

The settings between the server we set up and this machine is identical but still cannot browse to dnndev.me

We are starting to wonder if windows 7 desktops only allow 1 default website, but if so why can we add newsite, new apppools etc????, maybe it something in the setup on our infrastructure.

Just to confirm, are you saying that we should not create a new website called dnndev.me , and that the default website  path should be pointed to our new dnnsite waiting to be installed, and in the default website bindings add dnndev.me?.

I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate SP1. It's not in a VM but I doubt the VM is relevant.

No machine, whatever operating system, whatever web server, can have more than one (live) default web site. The default web site is what you get from a request to port 80 with NO other information. There can only be one.

Host headers are a convenient bodge to allow one server to separate requests for lots of different sites all on port 80.

If you want your files served up from the default web site then you need to set that in the Physical Path of the default web site. See my post a couple of slots higher.

You can create a new web site BUT:

- its name is completely unimportant and has NO effect on its binding

- if it has a naked port 80 binding AND the default web site has a naked port 80 binding you can only start one at a time - the wizard tells you this when you create it.

Probably the site you created is stopped.

Thanks, we are at least hitting the site now. I just need to modify db connections.

Cheers Stuart
