Hi
Could I get some feedback on he following.

We recently had a dnn skin developed on Bootstrap 3 by an experienced DNN skin developer.
IE 8 displays as mobile despite  which is not correct.
As far as I can tell, the IE8 fix being in place correctly

We've tried to get it fixed but the developers response is he does not support IE8 .

This seems a little unfair. We all wish IE8 would go away but there are still a lot of XP pc's out there and there will be for a while.

 What are your thoughts?
All I want to do is get this resolved asap.

The site is http://www.adelaideclub.com

Thank you in advance

Tony

Tony,
You should try to get more details from your developer or contact another developer to get it fixed. Perhaps the original developer doesn't know how to support IE8 or maybe the designer just wants some additional dollars for the IE8 effort. I know from our own product experiences with IE8 that it does take additional effort to support IE8. You may also want to post the details of the issue in the community exchange seeking answers from other designers. If you post the question, I'll help you get the word out to get some answers.

Did you tell the skin dev, in advance, what browsers it needed to work in?

There are an increasing list of places/tools that don't support IE8 - Google Apps, Disqus, jQuery 2.

From Troy Hunt's blog post (http://www.troyhunt.com/2013/01/the-i...) "...someone has no doubt done the ROI on it and said “Yeah, the value we’ll get from supporting that small, declining audience is actually worth dedicating someone to the task”. Great, but someone has to pay for it and whilst NYT hasn’t exactly “done a Kogan”, someone there has had to shell out a fair bit of cash to make this thing play nice with the old guy."

By "done a Kogan" he means this from Jun 2012. http://www.kogan.com/au/blog/new-inte...

Have you estimated the ROI of supporting IE8? It's not gonna be free!

I looked at your site. You look pretty up-market. Are your prime clientele really running PC's that old? Did you look at your analytics output. How many IE8 visits do you actually get. You can probably discount the ones from overseas. Not many of them will rock up in your reception.

Best wishes,

Hi Thanks for all your feedback.
We did not specify IE8 as a requirement , but it also seems the issue is in IE9. I'm not blaming the developer so much, I'm just looking to resolve the issue as well as a menuing issue on mobile.
While not many of our members are on IE8, around 10%, we would still like to resolve the issue, unless the costs are prohibitive.

Therefore, if any one can a developer with bootstrap3 & DNN experience, or is interested themselves, please pm me.
Thanks again for your feedback.
Tony
