Updated from DNN 6.2 to 7.2.

When I click " Edit this Page" a Authentication Required pop-up appears.

If I check "Stay in Edit Mode"  the Auth. Required pop-up appears, if I Cancel and hit f5- Refresh, the page goes into Edit Mode.

To exit Edit Mode I uncheck the  "Stay in Edit Mode" box, the Auth Required appears, I cancel, hit f5, page refreshes and I'm out of Edit Mode.

If this  were my site I would use the work around, but its a client's site and I need to get a solution.

Thanks for your help

it sounds like a issue with IIS website folder permissions.

Cheers from Germany,

That was my first thought, but the folder permissions are identical to those on our other sites.

The solution was to comment out the following in web.config:

 <!-- <remove name="FormsAuthentication" />  -->
<!-- <add name="FormsAuthentication" type="System.Web.Security.FormsAuthenticationModule" preCondition="" />  -->
