Hi Seb can you be a little more specific as to what link you are talking about or better yet cut and paste the info here

I first had this problem with ver 7.0.1 I just installed 7.0.3 and it still only deletes around 10 users at a time at best. Often it is less ie 9,8 or even 0 at a time -  can SQL server be set to a really high time out or can you tell me how to delete say 1000 at a time. Is there a module that will do it?

I have over 60,000 bogus registrations in one site. I used a simple SQL to soft delete the unauthorised users, by soft delete I mean they are still in the list but have a line through them.

But there are too many linked tables to just delete them from one table.

There may be sites with blogs or forums or calendars and I am not sure how they would handle displaying an article if they could not find the username.

Simple: Buy Bulk User Manger  $30.
http://store.dnnsoftware.com/home/product-details/bulk-user-manager-v33
Export all users. Edit file to remove users you want to keep. Use this file to import back into Bulk User manager now set to remove all users (in the file).
This is such a useful and cheap tool.
Back up your DB first of course

I used the following query and I think I had to remove the fake users from both the asp.net_membership table as well as the users table:

delete from Users
where UserID between xxx and xxx

I had 19,000 on one site and over 30,000 on another. This allowed me to take out a few thousand at a time after checking date ranges to make sure they were spam registrations. They all fell within a certain date range.

You should not hard delete from users table, you will end up with orphaned rows in other tables.
I suggest just use UPDATE PortalUsers SET isDeleted = 1 WHERE UserID between xxx and yyy
and use remove deleted users link or the tool from Bruce (see comments in my blog post).
