The easiest installation method if you want to do module development, is using the starterkit (see for a tutorial on how to use the starterkit here: http://forums.asp.net/1114393/ShowPost.aspx)

one other thing: if you do not use the sql server 2005 express user instance option, you might have to enable some protocols, which are turned off by default

OK I'll try that but what protocols and where do I change them? I fixed the web.config ion two places anywhere else?
Will I still be able to debug the DNN code with the starterkit ie. sourcecode etc?

I think he means what I mentioned above - uncomment the sections valid for SQL2000/2005 and comment out the SQL Express strings.

You can change the protocols in the SQL Server Surface Area Configuration. Go to Service Area configuration for Services and connections, Remote connections.
There you can enable remote connections, otherwise you can only connect to the db from the same PC.
If you don't have your db on another PC this should not be necessary however.
