I take it you followed the advice from http://www.dnnsoftware.com/wiki/page/... ? If so those are known to work, so it would suggest that there is an issue for email outgoing from your webserver e.g. perhaps it does not allow smtp (port 25) access

A small contribution, which could be helpful for the next readers of the thread.
I also had so many problems with the SMTP setting...
2 stupid things but that made me to resolve this issue:

I could not find the email in the box test !!  -> because they went to the spam folder.

DNN continued to use old settings smpt, although I will put new ones !!  -> (In the setting show the new setting, but also work with the older)?  -> DNN accepted the new ones only after a restart of the program.

thanks for the note Guglielmo - I suspect you hadn't realised that you must press "update" for the new settings to be saved and the used i.e. the test smtp uses the currently saved settings

Thanks for the estimate ... but I built my first computer 31 years ago ... I think I know what it means to the "refresh" button.

since we're on the subject, I would like to tell all the anomalies found on that occasion:
Even though I had entered the correct SMTP address and ALWAYS clicked on the  update button, DNN gave me the send test positive, but DNN continued to use the same previous wrong SMTP.
Inserting a fake SMTP (goofy.goofy) the test was still positive and correct, even if the email did not arrive. I've never had negative tests, DNN was always good at any smpt I should add. And only after I realized that it was so because he had the previous smpt stored and not changed with the correct one, that I gave him and that regularly I updated.

At the end, since the email came even if through a wrong SMTP I had entered only for testing , and since I was unable to update the SMTP with the correct values, I left it so for a week.
Then one night I dreamed of a fairy who told me "why do not you do a restart?" And so I did. and everything is back in place, Dnn used the correct SMPT I had changed.

I know, it is a granted remedy, but sometimes, because of this, people do not think of it.

Greetings!
and sorry for my english...
