I have a website running 7.1.2 and a test version of same site running 7.2.1. The test site seems significantly slower than the live site. Any idead what would cause this? What would I look in hopes of learning why the site is slow?

could you please provide some more details? Are the two sites on the same machine? How does this performance issue look like (is it only the first visit to the site that lasts long, and then it works normally)? Also have a look at the EventLog table, is this significantly larger than on the other installation? Are there some exceptions in the site log, esp. concerning scheduled tasks?

this should be simple. The application pool shuts down after being idle for a while, this is normal ASP.Net behaviour. If the site is reachable from the internet you may use a keep-alive service (like http://www.dnnmonitor.com), otherwise you can do that easily by installing a scheduled task that is calling the script KeepAlive.aspx (in the root oof your website, eg. http://mylocaldnnsite/KeepAlive.aspx) every 10 minutes or so - see here for instructions: http://deangrant.wordpress.com/2012/0...
