During my first attempt at installing DNN 4.3.2, I got some strange errors... However, after fiddling with the install I got it working.

A little background...

I have VS.NET 2003, Visual Web Express, SQL 2000, and SQL 2005 Express.

My install is using VWD and SQL 2005 Express.

I followed Shawn Walkers DNN 4.0.0 Starter Kit and Templates forum entry. After following his directions, I got the following errors when trying to run the site for the first time - I think this was due to the fact that I had VS.NET 2003 and VWD installed without setting up any sites with either beforehand (new install of WinXP)...

Error #1:

Failed to access IIS metabase

To fix, try to repair your ASP.NET installation and set up all of the appropriate ISAPI extension mappings.

    aspnet_regiis -i

If, however, IIS was already installed, and you installed VS 2003 and then VS 2005, and then set up a 1.1 virtual directory / website, simply check that the appropriate ASP.NET version is associated with it (Select VDIR | Properties | ASP.NET tab).

That fixed error #1, but then I was greeted with error #2: 'Mutex could not be created'

To fix:

   1. Grant yourself (rather the user the site impersonates) Full Control to the  %WINDIR%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\Temporary ASP.NET Files folder.
   2. Delete the all folders from the 'Temporary ASP.NET Files' folder.
   3. Perform an IISRESET.

After doing this, go to the browser and type in "http:\\localhost\<your install location>

DNN should install ok.
