Hello all, I need to move our public DNN website from a Windows 2003 server running IIS6 to a new webserver running Windows 2012 with IIS8. The website's database is on a seperate SQL 2008 server and it does not need to be moved. I copied the website directory from the old server(IIS6) to the new one (IIS8) created a new site and mapped it to the directory that I copied over. I was assuming that the web.config file should not have to change. When I try to connect to the site from the new web server, I get the following error.

I thought maybe I need to run the Web Platform Installer and install a DNN component that I may be missing but when I try to install DNN Platform from the installer, I am prompted to install SQL Express. I am not sure why I would need to do this as the website database is already on another server. Can someone please let me know what I am missing.

Thanks.

Hi

I think you need to configure application pool to DotNet version 2.0. You can also look at this forum discussion link:

Which DNN version are you trying to move?

Please make sure, you are using same ASP.Net version in your IIS App Pool as before.

Thank you for the responses.

I think I have a few things going on. First off,  I did not know I needed to actually install DNN on the new server before I can run a DNN site. I thought it was all self contained. I have downloaded DNN version 7.03.02. Will this work even though the old server was running an older version of the DNN? Second, I have asp.net installed. Under Authentication on the website located on the new server it says that ASP.NET Impersonation is Disabled. Is this where I need to set it up or do I need to do something with the application pool?

The old server is running DNN 6.01.04. I have not installed DNN on the new server. Do I need to? I thought the site was self contained in that by moving the directory over and setting up the website and application pool on the new server that it would work. The database is already on a SQL 2008 R2 server and will not move. When I test the connection in IIS using networkservice as my identity it passes the Authentication test but fails the authorization, saying it can't verify access to the path. I did add the networkservice account to the security setting for the directory structure. They have modify rights. I am not sure what the breakdown is here and would appreciate any help.
