What settings do I have to use when creating a video file to get this module to play it?  Some formats say I have to install windows media player in the browser to play it.  Some say it needs something from Quicktime.  I am at my wits end.  I just want to play a 30 second video that the client refuses to stream from Youtube because when it is done playing the suggested videos youtube displays keep showing the client's competitors.

When you are using the Media Module it will automatically choose to use the respective player based upon the selected file type on your server. For example, when you've selected a .mov video file, it will attempt to use the Quicktime player. When you select a .wmv media file, it will attempt to use the Windows Media Player. This is the case for all video files that you have loaded on your server, and it is also dependent upon the allowed file types in your Host > Host Settings.

Playing video from files on your server will require that the visitor have the respective browser plugin in order to play the video (i.e., Quicktime Player or Windows Media Player). This is the nature of embedding a video file with various web browsers.

You also have the ability like Geoff said to use other media player sources. Vimeo is very popular, but your client might want to also consider professional services like Brightcove, Ooyala or others. They allow you to have an embedded player very much like YouTube or Vimeo.
