Thanks for the additional instructions and ideas.  I deleted the localhost entry from the PortalAlias table and cleared the cache before making a new database back and restoring it on the web server.

This changed the behavior some but still no joy.  Now while using Internet Explorer the bottom message keeps flashing “Web site found. Waiting for reply …” and then shows the URL for my (file based) home page and finishes off with just Done.

Any other ideas or suggestions would be most appreciated.

Thanks!

Clear the browser cache, it can cause weird things.

I cleared the cache and received the same behavior.  I went to a system that was never involved with this and wouldn’t know localhost if it tripped over it.  This behaved in roughly the same way.  It did SEEM to go through the DNN startup dance before any rendering starts in the browser but returned a Site Not Found error showing the URL I entered.

The URL of the site is http://site359.mysite4now.com/stcoc and this is what is the only HTTPalias listed in the PortalAlias table.

Thanks for any ideas that might get me going further on this site.

I would check with your hosting provider to see if they can track down what is happening.  There might be something on their end that is doing a redirect or you permissions are wrong on the directory you installed DNN.  The NetworkServices account must have List, Read, Execute, Write and Change on the DNN direcotry and all subdirectories.

It appears that you fixed this problem. I am having the same problem. How did you fix it?

Thanks,

Neil
