One other thing you might keep in mind.

There are times when you may still need an element to resize or even to maybe scale up but not down.

For these occasions you can also use the following to lock an maximum or minimum - but let the element scale within this range.

min-height:
max-height:
min-width:
max-width:

Beyond that if you skin is using bootstrap for its responsive design you can also use the @media element to force specific things to happen based on device sizes

.myimage
{ height: 400px;
}

@media (max-width: 480px) {
.myimage
{ height: 200px;
}
}
