Just wanted to post here in case someone new to DNN comes to this forum in the scenario that they just inherited a DNN website.

Check out my blog post on things to know and things to take action on when you've just inherited a DNN website, but yet are not familiar with DNN.

Your prerequisites list has a couple of issues:
- DNN 6.2.6 to 6.2.9 are having same prerequisites as previous Versions
- Ever heard about MS SQL Server 2014? FYI: all DNN Versions 4.x to 7.x may use it w/o issues
- .Net Framework is used by ASP.NET to abstract from OS Version.
-- DNN 4-5 may run on any Windows with .Net 3.5 (displayed as ASP.NET 2) installed,
-- DNN 6 may use either .Net 3.5.1 or 4.x, DNN 7 requires ,Net 4, preferred .Net 4.5(.2).
IIS version is determined by OS Version installed, .Net 4 requires IIS 7 or above (Windows Server 2008 or later / Windows Vista or above)
- If you take over an existing site, don't change the running System. You should consider an upgrade to latest DNN version, by using a staging environment.
- When upgrading. please follow upgrade suggestions carefully.

I agree, finding users with adavend permissions, like Admins and Superusers, is a mess - we should take the chance in DNN next to consolidate user management

you shouldn't start optomizing DNN Performance, before understanding the platform - and should start by identifying the bottleneck.

DNN 7 comes with HTML module for content only, therefore site owners need to install additional 3rd party modules. There are open source modules, which have a long tradition with DNN and have been checked for security and other criteria before, you'll find a list on the right column at https://dotnetnuke.codeplex.com - but be careful, those having not been been updated for a long time should be checked out carefully. there are a number of other sources for great free or lowcost modules, like www.oliverhine.com and www.ventrian.com
Before installing any additional module, I suggest setting up a staging environment, where you may test it, without affecting your site.

Cheers from Germany,
Sebastian Leupold
