Can any body please let us know, what enhancements are expected in DNN 8 ?

I would love to have a full function skin, with all the needed HTML5/CSS/jQuery SkinObjects like Gallery, Accordion, Tabs, Portfolio etc ( please see here )  included in the default skin.

the feature set of "DNN next" has not yet been finished. As it had been presented on DNN Con a few weeks ago, it will be an MVC based rewrite from scratch, but is focusing on performance, built on ASP.vNext, which follows the Owin/Katana model, where the principle will be just to load, what's really needed. DNN started a couple of versions ago with JS library management to provide a flexible mechanism to register libraries and make sure, they are only loaded, when requested.

Cheers from Germany,

That is a great news

But will it be compatible with existing Modules/Skins?

Will it be extensible the same way via Modules and/or Skins?

What about the development model? Will we be able to preserve/use the knowledge that we have gained so far?

WILL WE BE REQUIRED TO LEARN MVC NOW ? :o

First, here is the roadmap. http://www.dnnsoftware.com/community/...

Second, start prepping yourself by getting familiar with creating HTML based skins and learning modern development practices.

Here are some notes from DNN con that were taken from the keynote speech. These may or may not be accurate so don't hold me or dnn to them.

  • Important points for devs

    • move away from .ascx development

    • move to MVC style dev

    • get used to razor

    • stop using deprecated methods

    • removal of telerik, solpart and rss providers

    • transition to CK Editor

Major platform shifts

  • 7.4 (Jan 2015)

    • adds a Workflow API

    • CK Editor.  No more Telerik.

  • 7.5 (Q2 2015)

    • MVC modules

    • HTML SPA modules

    • Platform/UI separation

    • will be the last to support about 800+ deprecated methods

    • .NET 4.5.2

  • 8.0 (Q4 2015?)

    • slim core

    • will not support deprecated methods

    • Full MVC Support

    • vNext

    • new Admin - personas

    • platform distributions

      • core, minimal admin UI, no modules

      • distributions - CMS being one of them
