are there any tables for the website with large amounts of data?
DNN is mostly relying on cascading delete, but it is known not to be very fast, i.e. would need to add further specific deletes to the procedure.

Another important subject is the recovery mode of the database. if you are using full mode (in database properties > options), each deleted record is copied to transaction log, usually simple mode is sufficient for DNN websites (you would be able to restore latest backup but not the changes since in case of a SQL error.

Biggest tables by far are SiteLogs and Exceptions but there is one table in the DB that is connected to the website that I'm trying to delete that is pretty big. Should I delete the data manually with a TRUNCATE TABLE statement? I don't need the data. I have mounted my DNN production installation locally and I'm trying to isolate the different websites from one another so I really don't need any of this since I have at least a couple of backups.

By the way, is there a way I can change/get rid of my 0 portal? At the time I was not familiar with DNN and I used it as a "placeholder" website with nothing on it. Now that I understood that there is no way of separating one portal from the lot and I'm trying to create isolated instances I don't need a placeholder website for each isolated instance since it's a waste of space and hosting resources.

Hope it's not too off topic. Must I create a topic about it? I searched the forum but didn't find a thread about this problem, all threads were about changing the 0 portal alias not about getting rid of the 0 portal altogether.

Thanks

Another funny thing about the "undeletable" websites is that they are still there and partially functional, meaning that when you call the URL the server shows the site and you can login to them but they are perfectly empty. The menus are there, but the contents are gone and if I try to uninstall modules from them I simply can and the browser loads an empty page. They are ghost portals... kinda spooky.

Moreover in the Host Site management pane the ghost portals continue to appear. I tried to delete one by deleting the corresponding item in the PortalAlias table of the DB but the item keeps showing up but without an alias. Wonder where the Host -> Site management pane gets its values from. Tried to put things back as they were but failed since I can't remember and most of all can't edit the PortalAliasID cell. Is this real bad? Is there a script somewhere that looks for useless clutter in all standard tables where PortalID = the ID of the portal I want to get rid of?

Thanks

Thanks Sebastian,

managed to truncate my Event Log and Exceptions with your script.

Still have a hard time with the undeletable portals and the clutter left over in my DB.

Is there some kind of script I could use to declutter my database after portal deletion?
