Hi,

I want to clone my DNN site (Now in production) to a dev environment in my local computer. I have read several posts, helps and I have tried to do. But I always have the same problem. When I go to the site in my local machine always go to the wizard installation page.

This is the process that I am following:

  1. Create an Alias of the site, called 'hostname' and I have created another one called: 'hostname:99'
  2. Clone the database
  3. Clone the files from the host to the local, and set the file permissions.
  4. Edit the web.config with the new database string connection.
  5. Go to the site, and it always load the wizard installation.

Does someone have any suggestion?

Greetings and thanks

Make sure in the database you go into the PortalAlias table and replace the URL(s) that are there with the new dev URL.  You will need to restart IIS to re-cache the tables if you have already tried browsing the site before making this entry.

Please let us know if this resolves your issue or if it persists.

Hi Robert,

Thanks for replied, unfortunately it didn't work.

I have copied my database using the "SQL Server Import and Export Wizard" and I wonder whether the website is crashing for that, What do you think about?

Thanks

Hi Robert,

Thank a lot for reply. Unfortunately it didn't work.

At last I found the problem. I copied the database with 'SQL Server Import and Export Wizard', and it didn't work fine. I have done a script with all the database features and data and it is already working.

Greetings and thank you.

Ricardo,
I always use SQL Backup and Restore to make a copy of my DNN databases.
