Mr. Sebastian - You mentioned something that may help solve my problem. Changing the domain. I would like to setup a clean install as this one is VERY old - honestly i bet it dates back 7-8 years, maybe more. I am sure there are lots of old data\settings\etc. floating around in there just waiting to cause problems. I can setup a clean install on the production server and slowly move data over as needed. Once all done, can I change the domain name without too much trouble? I would install it under a different domain more as a place holder - then switch when ready to make the move.

If you know of any resources to do this, please let me know. Articles, blogs, etc.

Thanks for the help.

I have a number of sites being upgraded from DNN 3 or 4 to latest, but it takes some extra cleanup action.
Your other Approach should work as well, make sure to add the target Domain Name as site alias prior to switching the domain address.
If you need to transfer user accounts, there are a number of good and inexpensive 3rd party tools in the store.

Cheers from Germany,
Sebastian Leupold

Great.  I am going to do some testing later today and see how it goes.  Thanks for the help.

 BTW...no users to transfer.
