DNN 7.3.4

  1. Install Cert on Server and add a binding for the secure URL
  2. Go to Admin > Site Settings > Advanced > SSL Settings and check both "SSL Enabled?" and "SSL Enforced?"
  3. Run this script on database "UPDATE [DatabaseName].[dbo].[Tabs] SET [IsSecure] = 1 GO"

Notes:

  • In step two I tried just "SSL Enabled?" without "SSL Enforced?" Then to secure pages individually by going to Page Settings > Advanced Settings > Other Settings  and check "Secure?". But I found that: some admin pages and controls (login/register) were not loading and; that menu links from secured pages were https:// even though the pages they linked to were not secured. By checking the "SSL Enforced?" the login/register controls were secured and working and some admin pages started working. So I decided it better to secure all pages from the database end by running the script in step three.
  • I am using some custom skins.  When I go to Host Settings > Advanced Settings > CDN Settings and check "Use javascript libraries CDN?" this causes errors (likely JavaScript). On one site the drop-downs didn't appear in the admin bar, on another banners and such wouldn't work.  I simply unchecked it.
  • I first added a rule to URL Rewrite to redirect http to https. I ended up not needing this because DNN takes care of that :)

THis process works well for all pages. BUT be sure to note that you need to restart the website after running the script for DNN to fully pick it up.

Also, I recommend testing at least one page first to prevent you from getting locked out.

I'm curious how you know the login/register overlays are secured.  I'm seeing no indication of it - but then again, I might simply not know where to look...;-)

Thanks,
Richard

if you want to secure login and register specifically, you'll have to create pages with the appropriate modules placed on it.
