unless you need WCF (or a full rest API), then it's much easier to use the built in support for the webapi based service framework (many of the links you reference are 4-5 years old and rarely used nowadays) - http://www.dnnsoftware.com/wiki/page/...

Thanks Cathal, I knew about those articles. They were very helpful when I was build my very first module with service framework.

But I was wondering if the old ways were deprecated in DNN7 or I was just missed something from examples that caused DNN to respond with status 404.

Anyways its not a big deal.

no, they're not deprecated, they should work fine - though as more recent versions of DNN use extensionless url's you may have some additional configuration (not tested this I'm afraid)
