Hi  DNNer’s.

We are an open registration site where anyone can register. We have been open since our site was created about five years ago. We usually have only a few registrations per month. We converted from version 5.3 to 6.2 last night.  Today we have had more than 40.  I reviewed the attributes (name, email address, user ID, etc.) of each one and determined these were factious.   I unauthorized each one and then deleted them all.  I also disabled our only Registration page.  However, new IDs continue to be created, I am notified by email for each one. I cannot determine how the new IDs are being generated.  Any ideas?

Thanks.

David

There had been versions, where disabling didn't work, you should upgrade to DNN 7.3.4

Hi Sebastian.
Thanks for the quick reply!! Our long term goal is be current on versions. We are a non-profit, manned by volunteers and are really trying to just stay as current as possible. Going to 7.x is one of our goals. We also have a number of modules that we need to update. One of the issues we have is that my understanding is that DNN 7.x requires a SQL Server upgrade. That is a problem for us.

This forum and the moderators has been and is a tremendous resource. I found a thread from “digmike” on 1/17/15 that read he updated and enabled his captcha and still had no success in stopping the spammers. He then added a simple question that had a required answer and that seemed to solve it. Since adding the property on my site, I have not had a spammer in about 8 hours where I was getting about 15 – 20 an hour.

Thanks again Sebastian.

David
