first, from host menu add your list datatype host->lists

then in ascx

                            <asp:dropdownlist id="ddlLookingForTypes" runat="server" cssclass="NormalTextBox" datatextfield="text" datavaluefield="value">
                            </asp:dropdownlist>

to fill dropdownlist in ascx.vb

            Dim objListController As New Lists.ListController

            Dim colLookingForType As Lists.ListEntryInfoCollection = objListController.GetListEntryInfoCollection("LookingForType", "")
            ddlLookingForTypes.DataSource = colLookingForType
            ddlLookingForTypes.DataBind()
            ddlLookingForTypes.Items.Insert(0, New ListItem("<None Specified>", ""))

i hope this helps.

Did you ever figure this out?

Add List - the parent is disabled, so we can't select DataType.List
Add Entry - just adds a new DataType -- don't we need it to be under List?

I do not like the UI of this module, but at least it prevents most users from entering data. :D

To add a selection for a DDL in userprofile add property name as list name, list value and value caption for the first entry. click add - the list is generated with the first entry. you can now add as many entries as you like. Of cause you cannot enter localization or additional attributes.

I honestly have no clue what you're talking about. I do not know how Lists are working, so you'd have to give me a step by step using the terms the DNN UI is giving us.

Also, I just noticed that "Add New Profile Property" never actually shows up anywhere in the form, even when just using text.

I'd like to add a "Where did you hear about us?" field and make it a DDL so I can have quantitative stats.

It also appears that Lists can be added programmatically for use in your own modules which is cool -- I'm not sure if this is in the DNN API?

Add the list. I guess you got it that far right?

ok, in the manage profile you add a new property and type in the same name for the field as the name for the list you just created. Then select 'list' as datatype.

that's it.

Cheer,
Jesper
