There are very good ideas around for DNN neXt, mostly related to technology of the platform. But there are other aspects than the technology for the platform alone. One of the things that triggers me is the size of the zip file with the pack for the installation.

Is it an option to move a lot of things out of the zip file and download/install those via an URL? And yes, you need an Internet connection for this to work. So a trimmed down zip install pack with a bare minimum installation which will download the additional and for use required components at the end of the minimal installation.

I expect that just removing Telerik will cutdown download size by half.

I rather like the idea that everything is in one place. I download it; I keep it; if I need to reinstall it I am *certain* that I have the same bits; I don't need to rely on some third party keeping things online.

If I happen to be doing development using my laptop on a train I can install/re-install without it taking the rest of my journey to download over my mobile phone.

I vote strongly against this.

Best wishes,

No, not in half.

I just tested it for 7.4.0: the install zip goes back from 66.606.108 bytes (66Mb) to 39.648.091 bytes (39Mb), but close enough.

The Telerik stuff is stored twice in the install zip: 1 time for the initial install and a 2nd time as module install. So that counts if the 2 Telerik DLL's are 19Mb and 15Mb respectively.
