Hello. I have set-up DNN on my laptop. It runs as expected when the laptop has an Internet connection. When there is no Internet connection the local install will not run. I recently reinstalled all software on the laptop. Prior to this I did not have this issue. Does anyone have any ideas on this?

The laptop runs Windows 7 Professional - 32bit, SQL Server 2008R2, I am also using Visual Studio 2012.

which domain name are you using? localhost is provided on your machine (no need for internet access), dnndev.me is provided by a public domain name server and your browser needs to look it up, if it doesn't have it in cache.

PS: You may circumvent using public DNS by entering the domain name into local hosts file

Thank you Sebastian this solved the issue. I was using dnndev.me as the domain name. I remembered this step as soon as you mentioned it. To help anyone else with this here are the steps to add dnndev.me to your hosts file and be able to run a DNN install locally without an Internet connection.

For Windows 7 and Windows Vista

  1. For Click Start -> All Programs -> Accessories.
  2. Right click Notepad and select Run as administrator.
  3. Click Continue on the "Windows needs your permission" UAC window.
  4. When Notepad opens Click File -> Open.
  5. In the filename field type:
    C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts
  6. Click Open.
  7. Make the necessary changes to the hosts file.
Add a new line without the # symbol, for dnndev.me
    127.0.0.1 dnndev.me
  8. Click File -> Save to save your changes.

For Windows 8

  1. Press the Windows key.
  2. Type Notepad in the search field.
  3. In the search right click Notepad and select Run as administrator.
  4. In Notepad, open the following file:
    c:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts
  5. Make the necessary changes to the hosts file. See step 7 above.
  6. Click File -> Save to save your changes.

btw, you don't need to call it dnndev.me, I am using DNN743, DNN740 etc. and dozens of other versions on same local machine
