Yeah, I have no idea how it got so big with so much unused space. So I just truncated both the sitelog and eventlog for now and WOW, it is mere 30Mb, a 30 times decrease. I don't really use Sitelog much as I either have AWStats for SmarterStats running on my sites. I only use the EventLog for troubleshooting issues. Over the last hour my site has been painfully slow. Maybe this exercise will help some.

I was looking at another db that I have already moved over to my own dedicated server and the logs needed pruning there as well. What about this ScheduleHistory table? What is that data used for and is it typically a candidate for pruning?

On this db I did a shrink after pruning the logs. But when I look at the data on the db, it says 3308.56 MB in the currently allocated space. I see that the db is on 105MB now after pruning, but the log file is over 3GB. Should I do something to reduce the log file size? What are some best practices in this area?

UPDATE, I tried to just shrink the log file. It says 2.9GB are unused, but when I try to shrink it, the numbers don't change. It just keeps this huge amount of unused space. Any ideas?

To shrink the log file you need to do a full backup of your DB.  You can also go to the Options tab in the SQL Server properties and set the recovery mode to "simple", which will keep the log files smaller.  If you are making daily backups then this may be all you need.

So you are saying that if I switch to Simple Recovery Mode and then do a backup the log file will be reduced? I am on Full Recovery mode right now as I have not determined my best option for Backing up my dbs on my new server. I am using SQL Server Express and Management Studio and I cannot find a place to setup Maintenance Plans. I see the ability to do a backup, but I cannot figure out how to schedule daily backups. Any ideas on this?

Yes on the first question.

For the second question, Sql Server Express does not have the built-in SQL Agent to do maintenance backups, etc.

However, as discussed in this page on Microsoft, you can accomplish this through Task Scheduler and SQLCMD.

DTS runtime

The Data Transformation Services (DTS) runtime, included with MSDE, is not included with SQL Server 2005 Express. The DTS runtime allows SQL Server 2005 Express to run existing DTS packages. Though not built-in to SQL Server 2005 Express, the DTS runtime components can be downloaded and installed along side of SQL Server 2005 Express. You will find the DTS runtime installer on the Microsoft Download Center at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=d09c1d60-a13c-4479-9b91-9e8b9d835cdc.

SQL Agent

SQL Agent is a SQL Server service that is used to automatically schedule job execution for SQL Server. It is typically used to schedule the execution of DTS packages or to perform system maintenance tasks like database backups. While MSDE includes the SQL Agent service, SQL Server 2005 Express does not. However, you can use the Windows built-in Task Scheduler to schedule jobs for SQL Server 2005 Express. You can use Task Scheduler in combination with the downloadable DTS runtime to automatically schedule the execution of DTS packages. Likewise, you can use Task Scheduler in combination with the SQL Server 2005 Express command-line SQLCMD tool to regularly execute SQL Server 2005 Express system maintenance jobs like database backups and other database access jobs.
