this is not possible, both tables need to be populated - otherwise there are no websites.
did you check the database linked in Connection String in web.config?

Ahh hold on, I have had another look, for some reason there are 2 complete sets of tables within the same DB, I assume one lot was from a previous / failed install...

I have now been into the PortalAlias table, and noticed that there were 4 entries which included the IP address - I have changed these to reflect the domain names used, however on testing the menus / links still point to this IP address.
Do I need to do some sort of rebuild/update?

DNN caches the data from that table. At minimum you need to restart DNN.

You can do it from host settings although I often find it easier to use iisreset at an administrator command prompt.
