Hi,

I have about a half dozen 7.3.4 DNN Platform (a.k.a. Community?) installations. I've noticed that it lists the Digital Assets Management module in the list of modules available to place on a page. But, reading though information on the DNN website indicates that DAM is ONLY available in the Evoq versions of DNN. Should I be seeing it listed? Can I use it? If so, might it "go away" at some point and leave my clients less than happy?

Thanks for any insight provided :-)

Update: I guess I may have misunderstood what the DAM module is for. Apparently it's only for admin file management -- not really for public file access. Would I be correct in assuming that maybe the "links" module would be better for public file / folder access? I'm really looking for something that would emulate the standard Windows Explorer type interface for navigating a series of folders / files.

the digital asset manager (DAM) module is available in all editions - the evoq additions use the built in MEF functionality to extend DAM's capabilities. You can use it for public file access by setting the relevant user/role permissions, but typically a links or download module is better as they will have additional functionality such as click tracking.

Hi Cathal,

Thanks for the information. The client I'm considering using this for has pretty simple needs for the module (although there are quite a few sub-folders in the file structure). And it will be used by a very small group of users that only need download rights. I'll give it a shot and see what comes of it...

Thanks again :-)

Hi Again,

I'm re-visiting this section of my clients website and had a another question.

We do not want the users for this page / module to be able to upload / move / rename / or create any files / folders. We only want them to be able to view / download files. Is this possible? If so, I assume it has something to do with setting permissions?

BTW - I noticed that if I search for a file within the DAM, the actions icons disappear. They only show up again when I refresh the page (logged in as admin).

Thanks for any information provided :-)

A quick update: I added the module to a page then logged out of the admin account then logged back in with a simple subscriber account and it works just like I want it to. So, I guess I'm good to go ;-)
