Hi, I'm just asking for advice upgrading DNN. I'm currently running DNN Community 7.1.2 and have several portals/sites going. Looking at the Upgrading DotNetNuke thread and it hasnt been posted in since 2013.

I mainly want to figure out best version to upgrade to, and best method to do it. I've upgraded before (from 6.x.x to 7.1.2), and it took a bit of work but I figured it out in the end. I do have a test server to work with to do a test run first (essential).

Browsing this forum I'm seeing a lot of issues with 7.0.4. Maybe it's a better idea to upgrade to the previous version.  What do you think?

Also, what do you think of DNNUpgrade (http://www.evotiva.com/Products/DNNUpgrade) as a method to upgrade?

Thanks

Tom

Tom,
I haven't tried DNNUpgrade yet.
Regarding Upgrades, DNN 7.3.4 is very stable, DNN 7.4.1 has been released recently with many fixes, but I haven't tried.
However, a number of fixes didn't make it into 7.4.1 and will be included in DNN 7.4.2, which is schedules to be released End of June AFAIK.

Thanks Sebastian.

It sounds like 7.3.4 might be my best option. When I have time, I will attempt to do an upgrade on a test server from 7.1.2 to 7.3.4.

Let me know if you have any more advice about upgrading, It has been some time since I've done an upgrade.

Tom,
most important tips:
- start with a backup of your files and the database
- unblock downloaded upgrade package prior to unzipping files
- check your bin folder for leftovers from prior DNN and deleted modules
