Congrats, sounds like you're getting close!

Have you configured host headers for the portal URLs in the DNN site in IIS?  Let me know if you need more info about that, but without the host headers, if the sites are on the same IP address, IIS will serve up the default site.  So that sounds like the most likely problem.

Did you add a portal alias for www.myportal.com?  DNN only installs as localhost....you then have to add the portal alias that the website will answer to.  It is a "security thing".  DNN will only answer to the listed aliases.

Give me some info about configuring host headers in IIS.

Certainly!

The procedure is essentially the same for IIS versions 5 and 6.  In short, you go into the site, click Properties, and then on that first tab that comes up (the Web Site tab) click Advanced.  Here, at the top, it says "Multiple identities for this Web site".  Click Add, choose your IP address, enter port 80, and type in the URL for instance www.mydomain.com without the quotes.  Note, it's very detail-specific.  Usually I always enter it twice for every domain, with and without the www.  It's not the full URL, just the host address that matters (for example you don't have to type anything after the .com in the above example).

You can also review this procedure at this Microsoft knowledge base article:
