I'm retaining a working 07.03.04 (45) DNN version installation that is working, is operational, i.e. it is "visible", operational and manageable to a large extent.
The DNN instance that is running at this present moment, is a result of successive DNN upgrades since 07.02.02 DNN version, whenever those were becoming available, through time.
Nevertheless, due to use (appliance) of some third party scripts onto its database, around six months ago, I have ended up into significant upgrade problems onto the latest DNN 7.3.4, & DNN 7.4.0 versions, parent / child portal additions / deletions and some page management issues.
I was posting all those issues both to dnntracker.atlassian.net and the DNN Community with some little support & help but the main response from DNN co-coordinators are CNR and at the end, after identifying that my DB has been affected by those scripts and became "incompatible" & thus unsupported by the DNN Community since they cannot support third-party scripts.
All the dnntracker.atlassian.net issues links are available upon request but I think it is besides the point, at this moment.
I've been suggested to move on to installing a brand new DNN installation and migrating the existing data.
Can anybody provide me with a comprehensive set of instructions oν how to do that DNN migration from the existing installation to the clean one.
I found some links on the net but don't know if they work - and according to what I want and mention here.
The current site is online, hosted onto a Hosting Provider.
Unfortunately I cannot set up, say, an offline DNN 7.4.1 fresh & clean installation onto my local system since I have an XP system with an older IIS and no possibility to install that DNN version, in order to move it onto production environment, upon success.
Nevertheless, I have another domain (obviously with another Domain Name) up-and-running that I can use that one to install the fresh DNN installation, perform the migration, test the migrated DNN portal there and upon success migrate it to the current domain.
To make things more specific:
Domain Name: CurrentDomain.xxx - running IIS 7.x - ASP. Net v.4.5.1 hosted onto a Host Provider - that is problematic running 07.03.04 (Build 45) DNN version
Domain Name: OtherDomain.xxx - running IIS 7.x - ASP. Net v.4.5.1 hosted onto a Host Provider will run the fresh 07.04.01 DNN version
Both domains are hosted onto a Hosting Provider running Plesk v.120.18_build20150128.13 os_Windows 2008/2012 environment.
Please:
Provide a specific, sequential set of instructions of the DNN migration all from the CurrentDomain.xxx problematic site onto the new OtherDomain.xxx one with the clean DNN 7.4.1 installation.
After I will finish I want to be able to delete the current CurrentDomain.xxx installation and then download the new installation from OtherDomain.xxx onto CurrentDomain.xxx domain.
Can somebody send me a concise reply onto the follwoing, please:
Provide a specific, sequential set of instructions of
the DNN migration all from the CurrentDomain.xxx problematic site onto the new
OtherDomain.xxx one with the clean DNN 7.4.1 installation.
I got replies of the form:
“….
Export your old site as a template making sure you include
content.
Copy the resulting .TEMPLATE and .RESOURCES files into
the Portals\_default folder of the new portal. Create a NEW site using the
template you exported as the basis.
(You may need to manually tweak the template file if
you get errors.)

Note: apart from what I’m stating in my post, I have a
question regarding the cleaning-up of the DB:
I do not want to carry the old DB's “rogueness” i.e.
the inconsistencies caused by these 3rd party scripts made onto it,over to the
new one.
If I'll simply export from the current DB and re-import
onto the new domain I will carry these inconsistencies over, won't I?
And something else:
After the DNN migration from the CurrentDomain.xxx
problematic site onto the new OtherDomain.xxx one with the clean DNN 7.4.1
installation, I want to move the new OtherDomain.xxx one with the clean DNN
7.4.1 installation back to the CurrentDomain.xxx site, after, of course having
wiped-out all the domain’s contents from the Hosting Provider.
In other words, after I will finish I want to be able
to delete the current CurrentDomain.xxx installation and then download the new
installation from OtherDomain.xxx onto CurrentDomain.xxx domain.
What will the steps / instructions need to be?
