I had written a Thumb.aspx file long back, which generates Thumbnail if you pass URL or Local Filename here 

However, it has stopped working in DNN 7 see here

What has gone wrong? Is it because of the new URL Mapper? How do I generate Thumbnail in DNN7?

Why don't you use a general purpose image resizing library like http://imageresizing.net/.  Without code there is little chance that anyone else will be able to identify the issue with your thumb.aspx (note: using an ASPX page for image handling is innefficient since the page pipeline adds a bunch of unnecessary overhead to the call).

You can also use Torsten Weggen's image handler library: http://bbimagehandler.codeplex.com/ - it comes along with an installation package for DNN.

I shall try that (can you point me to some example tutorial as to how it can be used in my Module)

I was wondering, why can't the DNN core has the Image Thumbnail Generation Utility/API, built-in?

The fastest way is to install 2sxc from the forge - it also contains the imageresizer. Then try the built-in samples watch the video here and checkout the demos here.
