I see in our dnn site
Telerik.Web.UI.WebResource.axd?...
it outputs 30 js files into 1 condensed.

we show in our page load waterfall the site waits for this to download and then continues on loading other things. it is about 1.8 sec. and 1.7 Meg in size.

is there ways to optimize this, to make it cached, trim it down to only the controls we use?

I found a setting for this in the Host > settings > CDN > telerik CDN
it says if I leave url blank then it loads them from the telerik website which being a different domain would help in our load times as you only have so many downloads simutaniously in the browser. we of course cannot tell our clients to modify that so some of our optimized may be offloading .js .css and images to a separate domain or sub domain to help speed their download of our page.

I will post again if this helps us or not.

Telerik controls should get cached in the browser automatically.
DNN is (slowly) moving away from Telerik, but atm it is still needed to view the site.

right but when it combines the js files I looks at different controls on the page and puts into the axd file different scripts so the querystring is different on different pages and so forth. this keeps it from being somewhat cached. at least in our dynamic website. at least our page load waterfalls show it as different sizes for different pages.
and then after page load it can kick off downloading support images, css and such.
we need to have our clients doing simultaneous downloading (being from 2 different domains) as much as we can to booster our site performance as viewed from the client.
