Hi there

I'm new to dnn and have inherited a dnn 6.2.5 site to which I only have superuser access. I'm trying to make a copy of the existing site so that I can edit it locally on my machine.

I've looked at a tutorial for copying the content from one site to another but the problem is that under hosts I don't have a portal menu item so I can't access the export to template part. There is only one portal on the site.

Neither the remote site nor my local site have the option and I can't see anywhere else to do this.

What I need to do is to get a copy of the website to edit it before making the changes live on the remote site.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

If you want to duplicate everything locally then you could do that by doing a restore from a db backup and configuring a site in IIS with a copy of all the website files.  You would then have to make mods to the web.config connection strings to point to your restored db.   This would require you have some access to the server that is currently hosting your live site and db.

In my mind that would be a better approach to duplicating a production environment than using the site export feature.

Hi DNNMonster

Thanks for your reply. I will ask for a database backup and give it a go.

Thanks

You can export a portal template and import it into another installation. Host > Site Management.

Also there is a third party module from Evotiva called Backup Manager (I think). That could be of use to you.

Good luck!
