Hi,

I'm using DNN 7's Newsletter feature to send emails to registered users which works fine with static content with Token replacement enabled.

However, I've a scenario where I'd like to fetch some values from database for individual users, personalise the email body by replacing that value with the placeholder in html content and then send the email to users.

Can someone guide me to a resource where I can learn how to achieve this? Also, I'd like to still send the emails to users asynchronously and get the success & failure report for that email process like its done with the default Newsletter feature. Is this possible?

Thanks

Search the Wiki for "TokenReplace", this should provide you with the tokens supported and the formatting options.

Hi Sebastian,

I've seen that list of Tokens before and I also use some of them in the Newsletter. However, as you can read the scenario above, I need to get the values from table in the database that was created for my custom module. Are you suggesting me to create my custom Token which will just be processed in the same manner like others? Sorry, I didn't get you.

Siddharth,

the default newsletter module does not support any custom tokens afaik - and if these data come from a table that you use in your custom module I do not see too many chances to solve that. But you are free to extend the core Newsletter module - and also to contribute your work (have a look at the "GitHub" articles in the Community blogs here).

To your question about asyncronous submission and the Success & Failure report: When it is possible in the core module, it is possible with anything else. Have a look at the source code and you know how it is done.

Happy DNNing!

Hi Michael,

Yeah I was expecting to go for this route. Just wanted to check if there is anything existing already in DNN that I can reuse. I'll work on extending this feature for my use as first step and second will be to make it little bit dynamic so that community member can reuse it.

Also, I've never created any custom Token. Can you please guide me for this?

Thanks

Sid
