Hi there

I have two websites created using DNN in standard format as provisioned by Arvixe

Both sites also have the DNN Article plug in with article sliders, tag cloud and article catalogue

I have created content heavy sites with very large pages

Both sites are slow running on standard Arvixe Personal Class servers

I ran the one site on an Arvixe VPS last year but it was still fairly slow

I am now considering hosting the sites myself, I have BT Infinity high speed broadband and traffic volumes are relatively low so I do NOT see communication as the challenge

I have been using computers for forty years but I am NOT knowledgeable about any of the technologies required to configure and run a DNN installation

Questions are:

1. How difficult will it be for me to configure, commission and operate these sites from my own server?

2. What spec server will I need?  - processor speed and memory?

3. Are there technology choices I can make if I do this that will ensure excellent performance?

4. Are there specialists out there who would give me a fixed fee to configure and commission the server and provide me with training in administering / maintaining the site?

5. Is this practical or should I just stick with Arvixe

It's perfectly practical. I used to do exactly that. I stopped because I didn't like the server being vulnerable to a very single point of failure (my ADSL connection) plus I would have to upgrade the operating system and I didn't want the sites to be offline every time I needed to do open heart surgery on the server.

Currently I put mine on an Amazon rented cloud server. I find a t2.medium instance fine. It runs a dozen sites or so (all low volume) without breaking sweat. It's USD 450/year plus storage costs and bandwidth costs. Bandwidth cost is near zero (for me) storage is about USD 7.50/month Say USD 550/year. I overbudget on storage because I'm enthusiastic about backups.

I'm happy because it gives me a remote server that I use for other things as well. Plus I don't have to buy a server, buy Windows Server for it, and power it 24x7. If I want to upgrade I can have another instance for USD 0.07/hour plus storage, whilst I get things set up then throw it away. No service interruption until I actually swap over.

ETI-Ministries.org score at https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights is very low => 24/100. Page speed Insight lists several issues including several kinds of blocking. Home page has 89 requests. The home page is tens and tens of screen folds!!! No one is going to read even 5% of this content in one setting. You should partition your content so a web page shows only relevant content instead of a mega wall of text. Your performance issues are due to many elements in the page and the way it's structured.  Before thinking about changing servers, you should fix the issues as suggested by Page Speed Insights.

Go to applied-i and sign up for a hosting account. They should be able to assist you and maybe get a test site up for comparison.

Also, you should try and diagnose the bottleneck and correct that. It may not be hosting related.
