unfortunately that did not resolve the issue. I have tried a different servers (localhost + my web host). Still no luck. This seems to be a bug in DNN 8 RC.

Can anyone help please? You can try the DDR Menu Razor Template sample menu and it does not work. I have also tried the latest release 8.0.0

It looks like there was a web.config created in the Portals directory as part of the DCC which changes the razor webpage inheritance.  If you remove that file (make a backup in case you have some edits in there) the menu should render as you expect.
