I previously had a local working development site.

Recently upgraded to a new development machine, and want to copy my prod site here for development.

I've been following the steps laid out at http://www.ifinity.com.au/2012/09/05/Creating_a_test_copy_of_your_DotNetNuke_website to make a local copy.

When I have it all set up, I go to access the site, and get a DNN Error page with a button "Return to Site" that does nothing. I get this page no matter what page I try to visit.

In the event log is PAGE_LOAD_EXCEPTION
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

   at DotNetNuke.UI.Skins.Skin.GetSkin(PageBase page)

   at DotNetNuke.Framework.DefaultPage.OnInit(EventArgs e)

   at System.Web.UI.Control.InitRecursive(Control namingContainer)

   at System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint)

I've done a full backup of the site and database before many times on my old development machine.

I'm stumped as to why it won't work here.

Without having access to the box it's hard to say. What I might try would be to do a fresh install of DNN just to verify that you can get a installation up in your local environment. It doesn't take long and it may give you a functional site to compare web.configs and IIS settings.

My best guess is it is probably an IIS configuration. Maybe the bindings or the App Pool CLR Version?

Thanks, yes, at heart my issue was that DNN as not properly installed on the machine. Not all of the iis extensions were in place. Installing DNN fixed that and let me get things going properly.
