Hi, I'm new to DNN and I'm using version 4.0.3. I have installed the starter kit and everything seemed to install fine, however once I navigated to the portal home page all the modules have an error that states "An Error has occured. [Module Name] is currently unavailable". My question is how do I fix this. I'm thinking its a configureation issue because the initial install went went well.

This error can happen if you only configured the first of the two connection strings in web.config.  Better double-check that!

That was it!!!! For some strange reason I set the setting correctly in the connectionstring section, but not in the appsettings section....Thanks!!! Where is the best place to learn about writing modules for DNN, that also has examples?

This is a great starting point for learning about how to create a module:
