Thanks for all the good info. Just want to emphasize Will's comments: this exploit deposits in different folders and different link sources. None of the SQL searches on the TabModules turned up anything for me (no headers/footers that we didn't add).

I found mine by looking at file 'date modified' and found a grouping of Installer logs and files on 6/21 at 4am (no one installing at that time here!). I did find a host account created at that same timeframe. I then did winMerge and directory comparisons to backups prior to that.

I found that there was an encoded script embedded in the root Default.aspx file and "ini.aspx" in Portals\_default\Smileys with malicious code in it.

Hopefully I got it all out.

We had pretty much the same experience. The default.aspx had code in it and we found a file called roars.gif.aspx in the Portals\_default\Smileys folder. Nothing found in the tabs of headers.

We will see if that has fixed the issue.
