I'm trying out the Telerik Combobox.  I have a store module, and would like to use the combobox to navigate through the categories. Currently I'm just using XML files to populate the boxes.

There will be 4 of these boxes as part of the main site navigation, with about 40 options each, and the categories will rarely change: So,

Question 1: In this circumstance, would it be better performance-wise to simply generate static XML files to serve up the category navigation links? As in, why hit the DB when the info rarely changes.

Question 2:  If it were to run on a DB connection, the SQL would be SELECT * FROM PORTALSTORE_CATEGORIES WHERE MASTERCATEGORY = "1".  I am starting to understand the way DB connections work in ASP 2, however I am unclear about how to connect to the DNN SiteSQLProvider.

All the Telerik examples include a VB codebehind, using the 'inherits' tag. I am guessing you can not have more than one 'inherits' on a page? I am trying to install the combobox in my Standard.ascx main skin file, and cannot see how to combine the inherits and other references into this skin.

Surely I can just call one 'global' DB connection string that DNN has already established and use that to populate my combo box?

Sorry for the nooby questions. :)
