We have 240 portals split (by client) running on six instances of DNN - each pointing to their own database on our SQL Server.

We have noticed that even when there are very few page accesses going on to the portals on these sites, that the network between DNN and the SQL Server is passing an incredible amount of data (almost 2Mb [Megabytes not Megabits] per instance of DNN per second).  All our other IIS sites are running at a tiny fraction of this.

Why would this be?

Is there anything we can do to reduce this?

Our History of DNN is we came from DNN5 Professional to 6.2.2 Community and then on to 7.4.2 Community (not 8 yet)

Looking forward to your answers.

Regards

John

Use SQL Server Profiler to take a look at the traffic.

I agree with Richard - options for traffic are background tasks not running appropriately (check the frequencies) and database caching in Host Settings being disabled.
