I have retrieved a copy of all my files and sql server backup. I would like to install this on my local windows 7 machine running IIS. I created a directory called dotnetnuke here: C:\inetpub\wwwroot\dotnetnuke Then copied all of my files into this folder. I then imported my backup file using SQL Server Management Studio and can see the databse. I update the web.config file to point to the database: I also set the portal alias to localhost/dotnetnuke When I try to load the site http://localhost/dotnetnuke I get the following error message. HTTP Error 500.19 - Internal Server Error The requested page cannot be accessed because the related configuration data for the page is invalid. Detailed Error Information Module IIS Web Core Notification BeginRequest Handler Not yet determined Error Code 0x8007000d Config Error Config File \\?\C:\inetpub\wwwroot\dotnetnuke\web.config Requested URL http://localhost:80/dotnetnuke Physical Path C:\inetpub\wwwroot\dotnetnuke Logon Method Not yet determined Logon User Not yet determined Config Source -1: 0: Links and More Information This error occurs when there is a problem reading the configuration file for the Web server or Web application. In some cases, the event logs may contain more information about what caused this error. Can anyone tell me what I am missing? View more information »

you should not install DNN in a subfolder of wwwroot. either directly into this folder or a sibling (using a host header, which needs to be added to local hosts file).
You also need to modify PortalAlias table in the database to associate the new domain name with the DNN website.

Thanks Sebastian. I moved all of the the files from the dotnetnuke directory into the wwwroot directory.
I updated the PortalAlias table and changed this to localhost.
I still get the same error however.

please make sure, your IIS Application pool is configured to use proper version of ASP.Net (DNN 7 requires ASP.Net 4 in integrated mode, for DNN 8 you need to install .Net 4.5.1 or later)
