Joubert,

there must be another process that accesses the requested file. In most cases, it is a virus scanner, therefore my guess above - but of course this can be something else as well. Sometimes it is something that hangs, therefore try to stop and start the application pool, if this does not help restart IIS, and if this does not help restart the server if possible. There are some tools to determine which process accesses which files (eg. Process Monitor, https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/s...) - you could also try these. Good luck!

Happy DNNing!

Joubert,

do I understand correctly? You have one DNN installation with multiple portals and created one application pool per portal? Despite the fact that I have no idea how to do that - this is not the way it works. You need one application pool per DNN installation. If you want an application pool for each portal, you have to setup a DNN installation for each.

You can split your DNN installation into several portals easily by backing it up and restore it to another place (eg. testing environment/local machine), then delete all the portals but the one to keep (e.g. Portal x), delete this portal from the web server, set up a new virtual web server with a dedicated application pool and move that installation back to the web server. Go on like this for every portal.

Happy DNNing!

Joubert,

if you really have one DNN installation and managed to setup different web servers in IIS that use different host headers and different AppPools but point to the same directory (DNN installation) then it can happen that there are conflicts when the different processes (each AppPool launches an instance of w3p.exe) try to write to the same log, cache or whatever file. This could also explain your other issue.

Happy DNNing!
Michael
