Hi, we have experienced a strange instance of a dnn community server in AWS that was successfully recieving feedback form emails until yesterday. Today I happened to notice a problem and when I looked in the host settings there was no smtp settings and host email was back to host@changeme.com.

There has been no extra users or super accounts created and we had removed the install files as per the last notification.

We have since tried to set the smtp back up again by adding the smtp credentials but are recieving very strange results in that sometimes our test smtp email is sent instantly and in others it hangs and fails or times out (with same settings). The feedback forms are also intermitant with either no emails with an error message saying our smtp settings are incorrect or we recieve an email but the page just hangs and never completes, and in a couple of cases a normal feedback email

Very strange, surely if the smtp settings were wrong a test would not even work?, any one having a similar problem.

Have you checked the settings in whichever feedback forms module you're using? Looks like something's misconfigured there. See if you find anything interesting under the event viewer as well ... maybe somebody was messing with the host settings who shouldn't be? That's the one thing I can think of for the host smtp settings to keep defaulting.

No real clues in the event log just a general sql email errorand certainly no signs of interference.

host settings being reverted might be typical symptom of recent hacks, please check superuser accounts and delete any you don't know.
download and install latest version of DNN Security Analyzer from https://github.com/DNNCommunity/Secur..., which should fix the vulnerability. You will need to check HTML columns in the database for spam.

Cheers from Germany,
