I'm working with the NewsFeeds extension (https://github.com/DNNCommunity/DNN.NewsFeeds) but this problem probably applies to any modules, for example the core HTML module.  When I've added 4 or 5 instances of a module to various pages, then maybe removed them, and then want to add those instances back to the page, I go to Add Existing Module, but they are all listed purely by module name, e.g. "News Feeds (RSS)".  This really isn't very helpful, I cannot tell one from the other.  I have to drag them one by one, and inspect the Settings, to tell which is which.

What's the intended work flow when adding one of many pre-existing modules that all look the same?  Is there a way of tagging a module instance with a nickname or other ID, so one can easily tell them apart in a list?

Nick

I think if you change the module title from its settings, when from another page you select add existing module you will see that title. So you can add a distinct title to each to know what is what (you don't have to make the title visible).
Haven't used this feature in a long time, but if I recall correctly this will work.

Thank you skoubri, you are absolutely correct .. I realised later in the day there was this ModuleTitle attribute, and it has proven very useful.  Now I can click Settings for a module instance on a page, and in Module Settings tab give it a Module Title.  This is written into the TabModules.ModuleTitle database column.

Now these specific names appear in the Add Existing Module interface, and my custom module that I'm developing can refer to specific module instances by name, which was my original aim.

Nice :) In the module settings there are a lot of options, keep an eye on them because they might save you from a lot of trouble. Hope you don't stumble on any problems from now on!

I'd like to just confirm your finding, a name for the module (instance) is needed to be able to distinguish multiple modules on a page or multiple instances of a module - even if not displayed on the page, e.g. because the container doesn't support a title. This is even more difficult if you are using Evoq Content.
