I inherited Windows 2003 Server running DNN Version 4.9.5.5 and I really need to get it migrated to a new server running at least server 2008.  I would prefer server 2012 R2.

I don't know much about DNN but when I asked the former Sysadmin about it he said that he couldn't upgrade it to a new version because some of the modules that it depends on were not supported in then newer version.

What the server does is give users access to a large number of different reports that they can run.

Any thoughts on how I could get this system migrated to a new server? Is it possible/smart to migrate the existing version(it is really old...) so the current modules can still run?

As far as I can tell the modules that are in use on are:

SGSV and SQLGrid SelectedView

Here is what I have tried so far:

- It is a VM so I took a snapshot and tried upgrading it to server 2008 (The server is 32 bit so I couldn't go to R2)

- After a few issues I was able to get it upgraded but the upgrade totally broke IIS.

- Looking into it more it is suggested that when a server is running IIS 6.0 (which this one is) You should migrate the site to a server running IIS 7 rather than trying to upgrade.

- So I have reverted to my snapshot and am back where I started.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Paul

What about setting up a fresh DNN instance on a new server and rebuilding the functionality on that. If it is just being used as an application that generates reports then that might work fine and be a heck of a lot easier. Those modules are from dnnpro.com

I mean the modules are from Tressleworks.ca. dnnpro is just some sort of module seller. Forget them.

Onyaktech also has similar modules if necessary.

Thanks for the info Rob.  I will try to do that.

If I am installing a new version of DNN on the server I am going to migrate to do you think I will run into any issues with exporting and then importing the data from Version 4.9.5.5?

Thanks,

Paul
