I upgraded a site from 7.3.3 to 7.4.2 successfully.  As part of the process, I removed an old portal and a ton of old modules that were no longer in use.  I then upgraded to 8.0.4 and it appeared to work successfully.  Unfortunately when I tried to go to the website, I got the following error:

Server Error in '/' Application.

Runtime Error

Description: An exception occurred while processing your request. Additionally, another exception occurred while executing the custom error page for the first exception. The request has been terminated.

After some research, I turned off custom errors and now get this message:

Server Error in '/' Application.

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:4.0.30319; ASP.NET Version:4.6.1085.0

I am at somewhat of a loss on this.  I have installed a clean DNN8 installation at my hosting provider so I know it should at least work.  Any clues as to weher to look would be fantastic.

Cheers

Dave,
please compare your web.config with web.config from a new DNN install.
please check basic settings of your IIS app pool, it needs to run .Net 4 in integrated mode.

Cheers from Germany,
