So, whats the latest regarding DNN9 these days, stable enough to upgrade to know without to many problems or lack of functionality?

I disagree. I just installed a fresh copy of DNN 9.1.1 in my development environment. It has 2 errors in DDRActionsMenu.ascx. At line 2, "The file '/Desktopmodules/DDRMenu/Actions.ascx' does not exist". At line 8, "Unknown server tag 'dnn:ACTIONS'". Obviously, they are really a single error, but for 9.1.1 to ship with a compile error in the base code is not good.

Actually, the source version of DNN has always been a nightmare to even get to compile in Visual Studio, so that is nothing new. I really recommend the non source version, even if you like me consider yourself an experienced .NET developer.

That said, I must say that 9.1.1 is much better than the first DNN 9 version and overall I am quite impressed with what has been achieved. Yes, there are still bugs but overall there seem to be a positive forward motion with DNN that I have not seen in many years. Would not do a live upgrade of an installation without setting up a test enviroment first though as there are still a few pitfalls.

IMO, it depends on the extensions used on your DNN instance, the less the easier an upgrade should be.
In any case, you should try upfront the upgrade on a clone of your sites.
DNN 9.2.0 will solve numerous known issues (but also introduces new features with new issues to expect)
