Hi - Is there something that I'm overlooking in DotNetNuke or when you install DotNetNuke into a folder on your server and create your first pages, the link to your page is going to be super long? Is there a way within the software to have the pages create in the root folder? Or a way to move them there? Seems like there should be, but I can't seem to find it in the settings.

Thanks for your help!

Can you be more specific, DNN does not create any physical pages in any directories.  All pages are served up using the default.aspx page in the root directory.  The additiona directories you see on the URL identify which tab the user is requesting and then the content is loaded from the database.

Sure. Basically though you're saying that if I have the database setup correctly, that when I create pages it should go to the default.aspx page in the root. I probably don't have the DB setup correctly, and that's the problem.

Just to verify though, if I have Dotnetnuke setup correctly, when I create the homepage it should save it in whatever viritual folders it creates, but it will point it to the default.aspx. Am I understanding this correctly?

You might be understanding it correctly...

Basically, there aren't actually any virtual folders created.  What appear to be virtual folders in the path in the URL are actually just the results of the search engine-friendly URL functionality.  They don't actually exist in the directory structure.  You can turn that functionality off in the host settings, which would help you have shorter URLs.  Also you can ignore all those folders if you're linking to the page, and instead just go directly to the tabid if you wish.

Does that answer your questions?

Entermatrix wants URL's to be like mydomain.com/page1 and mydomain.com/page2. This feature does not exist in DNN. You can turn off friendly URL's where everything is a querystring off default.aspx or you can turn on friendly URL's where your URL's are very long, but they are better for search engines -- since it makes it appear your site has physical directories (until the search engines decide to detect DNN and rank these sites differently).
