Within a team setting, if one super user (or editor) is making updates to an existing page or HTML module on a page, how can other administrators or editors see that is "currently" going on? Is there some type of notification system we can enable or add that enhances this communication process through DNN?

At the end of the day, we just don't want editors "stepping on each other's toes"

Thanks for any thoughts on this!

You can't do this afaik, at least not out of the box in DNN Platform. I cannot speak of Evoq products, as I never played around with them.

Solution: Discipline. Or some markers - e.g. before someone starts to edit a page, he could add an HTML module visible only for editors and administrators saying: "Michael is actually working on this page" - and delete the module after he has finished, or set the text to "No one is currently working on that page." So everyone would know.

Happy DNNing!

As for the html module, there is a content staging function in the Community Edition for the HTML module only. Basically, the first editor could make just any modification like adding a space at the end, save and return to do the real edit. Users will see the old version until this edit is published, if a second editor comes to the page, he will see a publish button next to the edit button, that would be his clue that someone else is editing. When the first editor finishes, he presses the publish button, users will see the new version and editors will no longer see the publish button.

In Evoq, there are custom workflows you can create, so you could have something like Editing -> Edit Finished -> QA -> Published or whatever you want. I am not exactly sure how it works because I also only use the community edition.

The problem with "isEditing" lies in the stateless nature of HTTP - a client requests some content and disconnects and submits content and requests display of the result on next connect. If you use a flag in the meantime, this would never get cleared, if the user just closes the browser window. If users have to set a specific state while editing an existing content, there is the risk of forgetting to switch it after completing the edit. From my experience, this is a very rare situation in practice. What makes sense is using "draft" state in HTML and other 3rd party article modules, until a new content is ready for publishing.
