Hi all,

Been running DNN for a while and sometimes the site becomes unresponsive. The only way to bring it up is going to webconfig and change the connection string. It comes up and then I can put active the old connection string and everything works fine. I have two connection strings:

CS#1:
<add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Server=localhost;Database=
<<DB>>;uid=<<USR>>;pwd=<<PASS>>;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />

CS#2:
<add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Server=<<SERVER_IP>>;Database=<<DB>>;uid=
<<USR>>;pwd=<<PASS>>;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />

Any thoughts why this could be happening? I have other sites in the same server using same DB server and they work well even when this one fails...

Thanks in advance

Hi, I have a similar problem with a website that periodically produces a 503 error (Service Unavailable). It stays like this although the other sites are fine until I recycle the application pool.
Is this the same error you get?

Hi,

The error I get is "500 - Internal Server Error" but as the server is shared I can't recicle it...

Hi there,
Is this website a clean installation or is it an upgraded site? Also is there any kind of error in the event viewer that can point out the nature of the issue?

I am hosting about 20 sites on a Windows 2012 machine, 2 of them where having this problem very intermittently and not so often, maybe once a week. About a month ago I found a bitcoin malware running on the server that was using a lot of cpu, I removed it and did many overdue windows updates and installed the latest sql service packs and must admit the issue has not come back since then.

I was previously using the Dnn Database Monitor module at https://dnndbmon.codeplex.com/ to recycle the app pool automatically should for any reason Dnn not be able to communicate with the database. I am not sure it works properly on recent Dnn version, but I would think so.
